If you're out haunted housing or enjoying a cocktail at a local Quad City establishment this weekend, don't be spooked by this flash mob!

13 Quad-City area women in a zombie-inspired dance crew, the Monsters of Mayhem, have made a tradition out of performing the routine from the 1983 “Thriller” music video several times — some planned and some impromptu — during the final weekend in October.

According to a Quad-City Times article, Michelle Vetter started the Quad City group four years ago with her best friend. Vetter plans to dress up as a zombied Michael Jackson; complete with a red leather jacket  just like the “Thriller” music video. Others in her group are dressing up as zombie versions of baseball and basketball players as well as Dorothy from “The Wizard of Oz.”

The QC flash mob will coincide with dozens of others around the world Saturday, during an annual attempt to break the record for largest simultaneous dance using “Thriller.”

The group is set to appear at the Factory of Fear, the haunted house in Moline, on Saturday, they plan to travel to area bars, still in their zombie attire, via a party bus. I hope I can find them this weekend! Here are more scheduled appearances:

The flash mob will also perform at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Goodwill of the Heartland, 4805 22nd Ave., Moline. Their dance routine will coincide with  similar events happening at the same time in over 70 cities around the world. The group is also scheduled to perform "Thriller" at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at the Rock Island Goodwill store, 4664 44th St., Rock Island. For more info, visit thrilltheworld.com.
