Davenport Assumption was slated to play on Tuesday in the Class 4A state softball tournament, but Mother Nature had other unfortunate plans.

All games in all classes were rained out on Tuesday in Fort Dodge, and games have been pushed, which creates a mess. The schedule has been worked around due to weather.

In the meantime, here's a podcast with Iowa Public Television producer Paul Yeager to break down the local teams that are in the state softball tournament. IPTV will air all five state championship games.

Assumption vs. Atlantic is now Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Pleasant Valley and Davenport West played one another on Monday, and did not have to deal with any inclement weather.

PV defeated West 9-0 on Monday. The Spartans held the Falcons to one hit; PV had 16 hits.

The Spartans play West Des Moines Valley at 7 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons, meanwhile, play at noon Wednesday against Cedar Rapids Prairie.

Ellie Spelhaug threw the first five innings, and allowed the lone hit in the third inning to West third baseman Courtney Harris.

Durant also played Monday in the Class 2A tournament, and lost in 11 innings to Beaman-Conrad-Lipscomb-Union-Whitten. BCLUW's Olivia Callaway drove in the go-ahead run in the 11th inning.
