If you were to place an over/under on how many times we have talked about gambling on Don't Hassle Us We're Local, you would take the over every time.  On Wednesday night, the Iowa house passed the Senate File 617.  If passed by the House and signed by the Governor, Iowa casinos will be able to house sports books for sports wagering enthusiasts.  Here are some guidelines:

  • There is no gambling on in state collegiate sports prop bets
  • There will be new penalties if you gamble on the black market
  • You can place sports bets in a casino, or do fantasy sports betting
  • You will be able to place a bet online or through a mobile app, with geo-fencing
  • You must be 21 years or older
  • You will have to sign in person (until January 1, 2021) at a casino and then download the app
  • Sports betting money by a licensed operator will be taxed at a 6.75 percent rate every year
  • The bill would take effect immediately if it is signed by the governor
  • A commission will oversee the implementation of the program, as well as regulate licensees- fees are $45,000 and a $10,000 renewal fee
