On Saturday night, the state of Iowa lost an icon.

Bob Brooks, legendary broadcaster, died late Saturday night at the age of 89.

Brooks is a member of the Kinnick Stadium media "Wall of Fame" and was recognized by the UI as an honorary letterman.

Brooks was a native of Cedar Rapids. He earned his journalism degree from Iowa in 1948 and immediately began his broadcasting career in his hometown.

One of the signature things that is associated with Brooks is an old cassette tape recorder that Brooks used even with other reporters having modern technology, like iPhones and digital recorders.

Brooks covered Iowa football all the way back to the Nile Kinnick days and got to cover this year's Rose Bowl Game in January.
