On Friday, the QC Steamwheelers announced on their social media pages that they unfortunately have to cancel their upcoming 2021 season.

On Friday, Quad City Steamwheelers fans, and fans of looking for something to do in the Quad Cities, got the unfortunate news that there will be no Steamwheelers season next year.

According to a press release posted on their Facebook page, officials from the Quad City Steamwheelers cite COVID-19 restrictions by the state of Illinois and say those restrictions make it very difficult to have fans at the TaxSlayer Center in Moline during games.

In the press release, Steamwheelers officials say that the Indoor Football League (IFL) released their 2021 schedule back in October. Doug Bland, CEO of the Steamwheelers said in the press release,

"We did not want to hinder the IFL in anyway or our players the opportunity to chase their NFL dreams due to our restrictions we have in the state of Illinois."

The press release goes on to say that the Steamwheelers have worked with the IFL commissioner, Todd Tyron, and have committed to a Letter Affiliation Agreement for the 2022 season guaranteeing the Quad City Steamwheelers a season in 2022.
