It's that time of year where we have to do taxes. The worst part of doing taxes is paying them. The second worst part of taxes is following the directions so you make sure you get everything right. It's not rocket science, but even if you do follow directions you can be left wondering whether or not you figured it all out correctly.

Well if you earn under $57,000 annually, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program from the United Way will help you prepare your taxes for free.  They're good too. The average refund per family when VITA prepared taxes $1,500.00. Last year VITA returned over $5 million to Quad City families and saved them $1 million in tax prep fees.

VITA is also looking for volunteers to prepare returns. Volunteers are big reason this free service can be offered. Volunteers don't need to be accountants, they just need to know how to use a computer. You'll receive all the training you need before helping folks. If you'd like to be a good neighbor, call George Carizey at 563.344.0331.
