If you told me Rockford native, and NBA star Fred VanVleet would receive a suspension for anything, I'd think you were joking.

I trust VanVleet was as surprised as I was when he found out he had to sit a game because of his role in what can best be described as a kerfuffle just a couple of days ago.

That's because whatever happened between the Toronto Raptors and Los Angeles Lakers wouldn't qualify as a fight.

Sure, there was some pushing and shoving between players but no haymakers were thrown.

If you're wondering just how VanVleet factored into the scrum, you're not alone. He wasn't on the floor at the time, but sitting on the bench when it all went down.

VanVleet being a good teammate got off the pine and decided to pull one of his teammates away from the pile and apparently that's all it takes to get a suspension in the NBA.

According to NBA rules, 'During an altercation, all players not participating in the game must remain in the immediate vicinity of their bench. Violators will be suspended, without pay, for a minimum of one game and fined up to $50,000.'

Not sure about the fine but VanVleet did receive a one-game suspension because of his involvement.

VanVleet summed his feelings about the suspension with a one word tweet:
