Former famous Illinois video game company now has a documentary out about it.

I'm not really into the new world of gaming. The last system I owned was Playstation 2. I got it to play Madden Football and Guitar Hero. My daughter has a Wii, so I'll try my hand at Mario Cart every once in a while.

Growing up, my dad wouldn't let me have one because he said it would ruin the television. If I wanted to play, I had to go to a friend's house for Atari, Intellivision, Colecovision, or anything like that. I finally bought a Nintendo when I was in college.

When I really wanted to get my video game fix, my choice was hitting an arcade. Pretty much every mall had one. There was also a game room about three or four blocks from my parent's house. My best friend had one walking distance from his house too. On Friday nights, they would charge $5 and it was unlimited gaming for two hours. That was so much fun.

Nowadays, I'll take my daughter and nephew to Dave and Buster's. There are even some retro arcades in the suburbs that bring back great memories. They usually have a wide variety of old school games to keep me busy for hours.

Back in the day, there weren't as many companies making the games, so I pretty much could name most of them all. One of the big ones was Midwest Games. They were based out of Chicago, so that was another reason I knew who they were. They created some of my favorites including Defender, Galaga, Joust, and Pac-Man to just mention a couple.

Like a lot of things, arcades ran their course, and eventually, Midway Games closed down. Now, there's a chance to go back and relive those games through the magic of film.

According to chicago.suntimes.com,

"After creating memorable video games that delighted generations of teen gamers and frustrated their parents, a defunct Chicago company is the subject of a new documentary that aims to showcase their importance to the current iteration of interactive entertainment. “Insert Coin,” detailing the history of the Northwest Side-based Midway Games, is known for creating cult classic video games “NBA Jam,” “Mortal Kombat,” “Rampage” and “NFL Blitz,” among many others."
