The little league team from Davenport Southeast Little League kept it's winning ways on Wednesday beating North Dakota 11-3 and setting up a consolation final with Nebraska-- who lost 3-0 to South Dakota.

The winner of this game will advance to the Little League World Series (the top two teams advance) and play South Dakota for the Midwest Regional Championship on Saturday.

THE PREVIEW

Davenport dropped their first game of regional play on Saturday to South Dakota and have fought back through the consolation bracket with wins over Minnesota (3-0) and North Dakota (11-3).

Although they struggled at the plate against South Dakota, the team has been explosive since.  Overall, Davenport is batting .279 in Midwest Regional play.

The top of the order has been setting the pace for the Davenport hitters in the pair of victories.  Nick Schaich hits lead off and has a homer, Luke Martin is hitting .429, and Sean Hendricks has 3 RBIs.

"They are hitting with confidence.  And they should be they prepare themselves well and we know they have the ability to put us in situations to score early," said Coach Dave Martin.

Alec Sullivan leads Davenport with a .571 batting average and a 1.286 OPS.  "Silky" is 4 for 7 with a double and 3 runs scored.

"Silky is relaxed.  His swing is short and compacted.  Taylor made for this game," said Coach Martin.  "He drives the ball where it is pitch.  Throw him outside, he is going oppo.  Throw him inside, he is going to drive it down the line for a base hit."

Pitching has been the one thing that has given the Davenport team some problems-- like putting the lead off runner on to start an inning.  But, fortunately the defense is there to make plays when needed.

"Pitchers understand that we have guys who will make plays.  Since they understand that, they know to put the ball in the zone," added Coach Dave Martin.

Davenport will probably rely on Nick Schaich, Luke Martin, and Wyatt Freking today on the mound against Nebraska.

Nebraska will definitely rely on pitching to try to advance past Davenport.

Nebraska has not had a good tournament at the plate.  They are hitting .089 in Midwest Regional play.  Only four hitter on their rosters have collected a hit all week long.

Look for Nebraska to throw Hunter Nepple today.  He has had the adequate amount of rest and is under pitch count in relief.  In regional play, he has thrown 7.2 innings, with 13 strike outs, and has yet to give up a run.

"Our best ball is still to come," is what Coach Martin ended the interview with.
