The Davenport Southeast Little League team opened up the Midwest Region play this past Saturday in Whitestown, Indiana and ran into a buzz saw of a lefty from the South Dakota team.

WHAT HAPPENED ON SATURDAY?

That pitcher from South Dakota was nasty.  He threw a perfect game against Davenport and not a single ball hit into the field of play left the infield.  Reports are that the lefty had thrown his 4 straight no hitter and/or perfect game on Saturday.

WHAT'S NEXT

Although they fell to the losers bracket after the 10-0 loss, the team is not out of advancing to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA-- the top two teams from the region advance to the LLWS.

Davenport has no room for error as there backs are against the wall but this team is filled with gamers and they will scratch and claw their way back through the double elimination bracket.

WHO DO THEY PLAY?

Davenport SELL will face the Minnesota state champions from the Centennial Lakes Little League.  Minnesota opened up the Midwest region with a 10-2 over Kansas.  Minnesota used 3 different pitchers in that game and put together tons of hits.

On Sunday, Minnesota fell to Nebraska 2-0.  Although the Minnesota pitching only allowed 3 hits to Nebraska, a few errors and lack of hitting cost them the game.

Centennial has taken the loser's bracket route in their district and state championship tournament victories.

ANY PREGAME NOTES?

Coach Dave Martin is going with a pretty similar batting order-- only one adjustment. He will give the start to Bitterman today.

Martin noted that the Minnesota team is very solid defensively (despite the errors in the semi-final game) and has some big bats in the middle of their order.

"Minnesota has multiple pitchers they can use," Martin said. "They have a kid who is crafty with the breaking balls and can bring in or start a kid who can clock 70 MPH on the gun."
