Dan Gable To Receive Presidential Medal of Freedom December 7th

One thing is for certain. You don't need to sell Iowans on the fact that wrestling legend Dan Gable is set to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Gable wouldn't just appear on the Mount Rushmore of Iowa sports legends, he would probably make any overall list of great Iowans, in sports or not. Yesterday, we learned when Gable will be presented with the amazing honor.

CBS2 reports that the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum announced Wednesday that Gable will we awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom on December 7th. President Trump will honor Gable with the award at a ceremony at the White House at 10:30 that morning. The President made the announcement that Gable would be receiving the award back in October during a campaign stop in Des Moines. Gable took the state with President Trump on October 14th and briefly spoke at the rally.

If you don't know the history of Dan Gable, then you probably aren't from Iowa! Gable, a Waterloo native, won two NCAA titles wrestling for Iowa State, won the gold medal in the 1972 Olympic Games, and then coached the University of Iowa wrestling program to 15 Team National Titles in Iowa City.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is awarded to people "who have made exceptional contributions to the security or national interests of America, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors." Gable will attend the ceremony with his wife Kathy, their four daughters, and 13 grandchildren.
