The Quad Cities lost a sports legend this weekend when former Rock Island High School basketball coach Duncan Reid lost his battle with pancreatic cancer.

Described as an old-fashioned, hard-nosed, no-nonsense guy, Coach Reid was loved by his players, many of whom carried on the basic lessons of family, education, and hard work into their adult lives.

Between 1980 and 2001, Coach Reid and the Rocks racked up an impressive record of 469-145, including 17 seasons of 20+ wins, 15 regional titles, and 11 sectional championships. Under Reid's tutelage the Rocks reached Illinois’ Class AA Elite Eight eight times, bringing home a third-place state trophy in 1995 and fourth-place hardware twice.

The Reid family has invited the entire community to celebrate the life of Coach Reid at a funeral service at Rocky's fieldhouse this Saturday, November 20th at 10 a.m.
