Bandits’ Hernandez 1-hits Snappers

DAVENPORT — For the second straight night, Quad-Cities got itself a quality pitching performance on Monday.

Elieser Hernandez allowed just one hit in a 9-1 River Bandits win over Beloit, and that came in the fourth inning on a Mike Martin lead-off single.

"He had total command, and total control of every pitch," Quad-Cities manager Omar Lopez said. "(Catcher Anthony) Hermelyn did a good job of using both sides of the plate."

Hernandez also allowed a walk and had 10 strikeouts, but faced just two batters over the minimum in his eight innings of work.

"He was able to keep batters off-balance," Lopez said. "Hernandez set the tone for the most part."

Among his last 10 starts, Monday's outing was Hernandez's longest outing. It is also his first win since June 15.

The River Bandits' offense was in full force on the Fourth of July, too.

Kristian Trompiz homered in the second inning off Beloit starting pitcher Michael Murray, then he hit an RBI triple in the eighth inning where Q-C scored four runs in the frame.

It was the first time Trompiz homered and tripled in a game this season. He homered six times last year while playing for the Bandits.

"I was making some adjustments in the last series, and I was just waiting for my pitch no matter what count it was," Trompiz said. "I was feeling really good at the plate."

Dexture McCall also had a two-run single in that four-run eighth inning.
